EVC2 Mobile: Control Your EVC2SE from an Android Phone

A community-built companion app is entering closed testing, and it needs testers.

EVC2 Mobile is a community project by Yevgeniy Kostelidi (zombie568) that let’s your Android device talk to your ElmorLabs EVC2SE over USB OTG, so you can read sensors, tune VRMs and set the DAC from your phone.

What it does

The app is a native port of the EVC2 protocol and of the I2C_DEVICES XML profile engine. That means the existing profiles work as-is.

Key Features

  • Live sensors and CSV logging: VIN1, VIN2, VIN3 (SX/SE), chip temperature and the 5V0, 3V3, 3V3A and VSPI rails, with graphs, session min/max and timestamped logs
  • I2C scan and VRM auto-detection: Scan I2C1, I2C2 or I2C3 at 100 or 400 kHz, with manual I2C/PMBus read and write for exploring unknown chips
  • VRM monitoring: Vout, Iout, Pout, temperature, Fsw and status flags (OV, OC, OT)
  • Safe VRM tuning: Limits are written before Vout Command, with optional write confirmation and read-back verification
  • DAC control: NCT3933 (with the SE’s fine trim), DS4404 and the EVC2S built-in DAC with calibration, plus an offset calculator
  • Custom XML profiles: Load your own VRM profiles at runtime, no rebuild needed
  • Device management: Rename, EEPROM read/write, reboot and DFU bootloader, with an RU/EN interface

What you need

  • An Android phone (Android 7.0 or newer) with USB OTG support
  • An OTG adapter or a USB-C ↔ micro-USB cable
  • An EVC2 with firmware 0009e or 0009h

Where it stands today

So far it has been verified on real hardware for VRM control, including the AMPLE-X1 (with profile limits corrected for 3.3–5.5 V and Fsw), and for the DAC on a GTX 1060. The author and a second tester did this, both on the same EVC2 revision. Everything beyond that revision has only been checked against an emulator.

With Elmor’s go-ahead, the app is heading to Google Play. Google requires a closed test with at least 12 testers over 14 days before public release, and that is where the community comes in.

Testers wanted

Zombie568 is especially looking for:

  • Owners of the EVC2N4, EVC2S, EVC2SE, Mini or an older F0 SX, to verify the DAC paths (DS4404, built-in DAC calibration, SE fine trim).
  • Less common VRM controllers and PMBus devices.
  • Different Android phones and OTG adapters.

To join, jump in our EVC2 Discord channel or DM zombie568 with:

  1. The Google account email to use for the Play test,
  2. Your EVC2 model and firmware version,
  3. Your phone model, and
  4. The VRMs you can test.

You’ll get the test link and the RU/EN user guide. Developer feedback is welcome too, and if anything in the protocol handling should be done differently, the author is happy to align with the official software.

Please note

EVC2 Mobile is a community project and not an official ElmorLabs application. As with any voltage tuning, raise voltages in small steps, verify with a multimeter, stay within values safe for your hardware, and remember that anything you do to your hardware is at your own risk.
